On The Creator of the Ioway Cultural Institute Website

Lance Foster, the creator of the Ioway Cultural Institute website, passed unexpectedly on 12 January 2025.

A tribute to him published on the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska website gives a little personal history and presents the scope of his work for his tribe.

Another fine tribute to him was posted to the the Iowa office of the state archaeologist, detailing many of his accomplishments which exemplify his commitment to the preservation of Ioway history and culture, and language revitalization.

News on the Irogre Memorial Garden "planted in honor of a beloved elder and historic preservationist".

Lance's impact was profound, and he will be greatly missed.

A note from the website administrator on the archiving of the website and its new look as of 2025, which differs from the old.

During the summer of 2024, while discussing future plans, Lance mentioned to me how he missed the old websites without all the frills, that had the plain white background and blue links. As the person who did the nuts and bolts building of the website back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, seeing it through a couple of versions, I thought it would be appropriate if I did a last change of the website to a look that approximates what Lance was envisioning.

Lance Foster was also an artist and writer, who maintained a Youtube channel and for a few years kept several blogs on blogspot.

Visit Lance Foster's Youtube for more information on Ioway culture, history and language.
