Ioway Language Materials

We have completed the transfer to CD of first of four language interview cassettes made with the Ioway-Otoe Elders during the 1970's, which in turn were ultilized in the making and printing of the Ioway - Otoe Language Book I, Elementary Level & Book II, Intermediate Level. There is an accompaning text book with the English & Ioway, Otoe-Missouria sentences. On the original cassette, there were additional sentences cited by Joe Young Sr. that were not included in the IOM Language Book I. Also, there are three gospel narratives that include 3 church hymns, sung in fine harmony with his wife, Bessie Dupree Young, whose father was from White Cloud. The first part of the CD concerns the sounds of the Ioway-Otoe language by Fannie Moore Grant, Otoe, who first married an Ioway, Jefferson Kihega.

The CD and text cost $15 plus another $5 to pay for the postage and mailing envelopes. All costs are reinvested into the expence of keeping the voices of our past elders alive, so that our present generations may learn from them.
