This painting was donated to the Iowa Tribal Museum at its dedication by John Suttle and his daughter Susan Kay Suttle White. It depicts the Iowa tribe after the 1836 treaty relocating from Western Missouri to Wolf River, Kansas.
John B. Roy interpreter from 1834 to 1855 for the Iowa tribe and his wife Pagrachenan located at Wolf River and lived in that area until 1855.
If you are able to visit the museum located on the back is an 1843 map (Blaine's Iowa Book) of the Iowa tribe's improvements and the Family Tree of John B. and Pagrachenan Roy.
Also donated was a book of Iowa Nations 1891-1893 Allotments and Annuity Rolls for the years 1885, 1889, 1891, 1893, 1895, 1899, 1905, and 1919, and the 1904 Iowa's Minor List. These are from Microfilm records at the Horton Agency and are copies of the original handwritten records. If you would like to research this book for information concerning your family, you will need to visit the tribal office and look through the records yourself.
