George Nuzumn's report on the Ioway Indians gives Tom Lightfoot, aka Yetsh-Y-he (Otoe Indian), as born Jan 31, 1857, place unknown. A son of Ma-hee (full Otoe) and Ma-shutz-mee (full Otoe) When Tom was on the Otoe Roll his name was James Wright. He was adopted into the Ioway Tribe and took the name Tom Lightfoot from Major Lightfoot in 1871.

Tom was married several times and had several children.
